Hormanship lessons are a wonderful investment in you or your child's health and personal growth! Lessons are offered for beginners all the way to advanced riders ages 4 and up!

Here at Hopewood Farm, we have a unique approach to our riding lessons. First of all, you don't need to ride to be a student and enjoy horses! Our horsemanship lessons take a more holistic approach to working with horses. All of our students, no matter their goals, learn how to groom, tack (put on equipment), and take care of their lesson horse. You will learn how to properly handle and be safe around a horse. From there we begin working on your specific goals like learning to ride or drive a horse. Our students learn about all things horses as much as they are willing and able to learn.

What does that mean? Well, if your goal is to learn to ride that will be the main focus of your lessons, however, you will also learn how to long line and drive so you can better understand how your hands affect your horse. You will learn basic groundwork to understand how to communicate with your horse through your body language. You will learn how their bodies and brains work and what you can do to improve your communication with them. Everything with horses comes down to relationships, and you can't have a good relationship without good communication.

When you schedule a lesson, the first thing we will do is ask you what you hope to get out of your lesson. Not really sure what your goals are? No problem! We will start with you from the ground up and simply get you comfortable being around a horse and go from there. The sky is the limit in equestrian sports; you never stop learning! This is why people say, it's not just a sport or hobby, but a lifestyle.

What can you do with horses?
